H.O.P.E Youth Handball Tournament
April 14th, 2007

(Handling Opposition with Peace Effort)

The Brothers of Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity Inc. Alpha Rho Chapter Temple University, Pennsylvania 1-Wall Handball Association MIGDOG PROMO Handball Association hosted a Youth Handball Tourney in North Philadelphia to address the issue of violence that's plaguing our City. Philadelphia is now the Nations Murder Capital with over 100 deaths this year!!! We held a candlelight ceremony in remembrance of our fallen Philadelphians. We had a huge turnout in which a few of our Councilmen/women where in attendance--Councilman at Large Juan Ramos, Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds-Brown, and Councilman Darryl Clarke.

In desperate times, it is a great feeling that we can come together as a community to support our family, friends and most importantly are youths. To display peace and harmony amongst bitter rivals, that’s why we love to play this game we call HANDBALL. The goodwill and ambassadorship among the players and advocates goes to show how you can just leave it all on the court in the heat of battle and walk off the court shaking hands and gaining the respect of one another and becoming handball buddies for life. Over 25 teams came to display their overall raw talent, but before the games started, a park clean up was started then a ceremony for our fallen Philadelphians.
